Gamepad Viewer shows you the input your controller sends to your browser through the Gamepad API. That is a genuinely useful window into how your hardware is behaving, and for most people it answers the question they came with: is the stick drifting, is a button dead, does the rumble work.

What it cannot do is replace a proper hardware inspection. A reading here points you in a direction. It does not, on its own, prove a fault to a manufacturer or guarantee that everything is perfect. If a result surprises you, treat it as a reason to look closer rather than a final answer.

02Results depend on things we don't control

The numbers you see pass through several layers before they reach the screen, and each one can shape the result:

• Your browser and how it implements the Gamepad API, which varies between Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.
• Your operating system and its own controller drivers.
• The cable or Bluetooth connection, which affects polling rate and can introduce its own quirks.
• Background apps, other input software, or remapping tools that may already be touching the controller.

Because of all this, a reading is a snapshot of your whole setup in that moment, not a pure measurement of the controller alone. The same pad can read slightly differently on another machine, and that is normal.

03Use common sense with your hardware

If the tool suggests something might be wrong, be sensible about what you do next. Opening a controller can void its warranty. Cleaning, re-pairing, or repair steps you find online carry their own risks, and they are your call to make.

We share guides because people ask for them, but following any of them is a decision you make for your own gear. We cannot be responsible for damage that happens while you act on what a reading suggested, especially anything involving opening hardware or attempting a repair.

04Warranty claims are between you and the maker

You can export a session log to keep a record of what the tool observed, and people do use these when they contact a manufacturer. That said, whether a company accepts it as evidence is entirely up to them. We are not affiliated with any controller maker, and we cannot promise a log will satisfy any particular warranty process.

Edit if needed: if you ever formalise a relationship with a brand or store, update this line so it stays accurate.

Names like Xbox, PlayStation, DualSense, Nintendo Switch Pro, 8BitDo, and any others appear here only so you know which controllers the tool supports. Those names and logos belong to their respective owners. Mentioning them does not mean those companies endorse us, sponsor us, or have anything to do with this site.

In plain terms: it is a free utility built in good faith, and using it is your own choice.
